March 2018 - Bloom 2018 - Marie Keating Garden
Dublin Here We Come!
We're extremely pleased to announce we've been invited to design a garden for the Marie Keating Foundation at Bloom Garden Show 2018 In Dublin.
We found out we had won the honor in December after competing against a handful of local irish designers. This years theme for the Marie Keating Foundation garden is raising awareness to Skin cancer
We plan to show a medium sized show garden at Bloom 2018 for the Marie Keating Foundation to raise awareness of skin cancer prevention. This year, over 11,000 people in Ireland will receive a diagnosis of skin cancer (non melanoma and melanoma) and 163 people will die from the disease. These are stark statistics. But more than 90% of skin cancers are preventable. For those diagnosed with skin cancer, there are also a range of new treatments and therapies available which enable patients with advanced melanoma to live longer with a better quality of life Through its Spot the Difference and Skin intervention Skin Cancer Campaigns, the Marie Keating Foundation has been raising awareness about the risk factors specifically associated with skin cancer and has also been advocating the SunSmart message.
In view of the fact that the majority of skin cancers are caused by overexposure to UV rays, the theme of the garden is about protecting your skin in the sun and to emphasise the importance of staying out of the sun, even in Ireland and also when in the sun, incorporating the key elements of the SunSmart code (i.e. protecting yourself by shade and sunscreen). We'll use the garden as a platform to hand out sunscreen samples and information on skin cancer and the SunSmart code. As skin cancer affects people of all ages, the garden should appeal to children as well as adults, male and female. We suggest using a predominance of yellow/orange colours in line with our skin cancer resource colours with a focus on planting with yellow and foliage and flowers
A BIG THANK YOU TO THE FOLLOWING SPONSOR'S, WITHOUT THEIR HELP THIS SHOW GARDEN WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE
